O Historical Archive on Tourism (HAT), que estava na Freie Universität Berlin, e corria perigo de ser extinto por política universitária, está salvo. A notícia nos envia, em primeira mão, o prof. Dr. Hasso Spode, coordenador do HAT.

Em 2011 estivemos com Dr. Spode em Berlim fazendo pesquisa no HAT (veja postagem aqui). Trata-se de um arquivo documental iniciado por um dos maiores investigadores do turismo que a história conta que já existiu, o prof. Dr. Robert Glücksmann (1877-1942). São mais de 35 mil documentos que estavam em mais ou menos 500 metros de estantes.

Com a eminência de ser fechado, em 25 de outubro de 2011, iniciamos uma campanha virtual pedindo a manutenção do arquivo (campanha aqui). Os resultados não evitaram que o HAT fosse fechado, mas ao menos impediram o seu desmantelamento e divisão para ser vendido em partes.

Agora o arquivo está na Technische Universität Berlin e terá cerimônia de reabertura em 29 de novembro próximo. Tá todo mundo convidado.

Parabéns ao prof. Spode por seu trabalho e empenho. Os investigadores continuam com mais esta possibilidade de pesquisa no vasto campo do turismo.

Good News: Historical Archive on Tourism (HAT) saved
Last year the Freie Universität Berlin placed its tourism archive into storage in over a thousand boxes.
Since then extensive negotiations took place about the future fate of this unique collection. In this connection, the numerous protest emails from all over the world were very helpful – thanks again! Meanwhile we found a solution, and indeed a very good solution: The archive is moving to the Technische Universität Berlin where it will become part of the Center for Technology and Society and of the Center for Metropolitan Studies. The archive is now situated right in the heart of the City West. The Willy-Scharnow-Foundation continues to support it; its new official name reads “Historisches Archiv zum Tourismus (Willy-Scharnow-Archiv)”.
The funding does not, however, allow for more than limited service so that further fund raising is needed. But by January 2013 most of the sources will be accessible again (visits only according to prior agreement). Already on the 29th of November 2012 there will be an opening ceremony - those who happen to be in the German capital at that time are cordially invited to join that event.
